Community Projects
During the past few years, the Woodworkers Group has had different projects to benefit local agencies that work with families and children. Below are pictures of sample items and the receiving groups. When possible, scrap materials were used by group members to produce the items in their home shops.
Car Carriers--constructed by the Woodworkers Group in 2005 for distribution to agencies dealing serving children----Sierra Nevada Children's Services, Child Protective Services, Sierra Nevada Hospital, Manzanita House, Behavorial Health Services, WIC of the Community Health Services, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Coalition.
Doll Cradles--constructed by the Woodworkers Group in 2005 for distribution to agencies serving chilren.
Rocking Horses--sixteen were constructed by the Woodworkers Group in 2002 and donated to local agencies serving children
Toy trains--sixteen were donated in 2003 to the same agencies that received the rocking horses..
Pull-toy bunnies were constructed and donated to local agencies in 2004 by the Woodworkers Group.
Bluebird nesting boxes--as an ongoing project, the Woodworkers Group has cut and assembled at least 50 nesting boxes annually for the Nevada County Audubon Society.
2005--another on-going project of the Woodworkers Group is assisting with the design and construction of facility improvements at the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Museum, www.ncngrrmuseum.org. The two facades above were recently completed by the Group.
Bulldozers were constructed and donated to local agencies in 2006 by the Woodworkers Group.
Small antique cars were constructed and donated to local agencies in 2007 by the Woodworkers Group.
Three quarters scale replica of the Chicago Park Depot designed by Steve Elsner and constructed by other members of the Wooworkers Group at the Nevada County Railroad Museum. Antique fruit boxes replicated by Jerry Hall and Ted Berentsen.
Tank trucks were built and distributed to local agencies serving children as a Woodworkers group project in 2008.
